I was able to move my mother to Otterbein Gahanna last August at a time when she needed it most. I first took mom to visit the neighborhood and she was very impressed by the friendliness of the other Elders (residents) that lived in the cottage she would also be joining, they were welcoming, she also liked the room size and privacy. She was a resident in a different LTC facility prior to Otterbein, where her care was sub-standard to say the least.
I was also loving the community feeling, the kitchen where home-cooked meals were prepared is a very nice size and they receive food deliveries on a daily basis. Also, that my mother’s clothes would be washed separately from the other elders, so that no more would come up missing. Ultimately, my mother was happy with the decision to move into the Otterbein Gahanna community.
As for the Director of Nursing (Krista), nurses, aides and all other staff that I have had the pleasure of communicating with regarding mom’s care, I couldn’t be happier with the family decision to entrust our mothers daily care in the hands of Otterbein Gahanna.

I moved my grandmother to Otterbein Gahanna in July-August of 2023 after many falls (with head injuries) and ER visits encountered while living at another nursing home. I immediately fell in love with the homey environment and the fact that there are no more than 12 elders in each cottage. I also appreciate that Grandma’s laundry is done in-cottage and separately from the other elders, as not to have clothes lost. The food is cooked in the cottage in a real kitchen and groceries are brought in from the grocery store each day. The elders eat home-cooked meals and can make food choices on their own. There are no snack machines. If someone wants a snack, they get one.
There are many other good things I could say, but the most important one is the staff and the care grandma now gets living at Otterbein. She is closely monitored and receives the care she requires. As a matter of fact, were at not for the staff, and especially the DON, at Otterbein, Grandma probably would not be with us today. She became suddenly ill and was sent to the hospital. When she was returned to Otterbein in the same unresponsive condition, she was immediately transferred to another hospital, where she stayed for over a week. Thanks to the care and concern of Krista (DON), the nurses, and aides, we still have our grandma.

I could not be more pleased with Otterbein Gahanna and the care provided to my mom since she moved there nine months ago. The staff is very kind in their daily interactions with her, and are quick to respond to any questions I have. The doctors, nurses, aides, and staff provide me with updates when they make changes to her care plan, as well as any concerns they have.
While it is very difficult to see mom decline as she ages, I rest assured with the care she is receiving.

This is a vibrant community of people striving to be a team helping individuals live a better life with assisted care. Each house environment is different, yet they all strive to create a safe, and homey atmosphere. When your loved one is sick and needs to recover, or if they need a permanent residence, you want someone who genuinely cares about your loved ones, and this is what they offer.
This is also a great place to work and engage colleagues with the same mission…providing care and compassion to those adults and seniors who need it most. Everyone strives to work together and build relationship with one another and the residents. This team really cares and makes it their mission to create a positive and supportive community to live.

This is the worst facility imaginable! My mom was a resident there and had the most horrible experience. Staff would take batteries out of beepers, so they wouldn’t hear residents call button. Residents get little to eat, and clothes always missing. The nurses and doctors have little or no training at the facility. Nurses are to give covid test every week, and don’t! My mom passed from the medical neglect, due to poor administration and untrained medical staff. I would not recommend this place to anyone!
Unorganized with meals, meds and housekeeping, waited an hour an half for bedpan, had to call husband to call director to get someone to come to my room, meals are either canned or frozen, all processed foods, don’t ask if you are on a special diet, which I was on low sodium due to swelling in my broken ankle. Aides deliver meals in hand with no gloves on, no napkins and always cold. Last straw was the wait for the bed pan and the moldy bun served for dinner on the April 4th. Had to ask for wash cloth several times to wash my face, only one sponge bath in five days. I would NEVER recommend this place for rehab, the only good decent thing was their physical therapist and one aide who really cared. It’s a shame, my husband gave them a second chance, and they blew it when I asked for my pain med and was told I already got it at 2pm, which I did NOT, my husband was there and also agreed, was told “well someone signed out for it” I said, “then go ask who ever signed out for it where it is”. Never did find out before I left.
I would not recommend this place at all! One star is too much… so much negative experience for just less a month there… poor management, very disappointed! My family didn’t receive all the care he paid! Actually already On the processing of transfer to another nursing home! Do not be fooled by how nice it looks. One of the regular staff lied about the service for just in the second day when I asked the questions!
My mom has been here for almost 4 months. Deciding to place a loved one in a nursing home is not an easy decision. Jill made the decision a no-brainer. She was warm, welcoming, informative, and very patient with my million-plus emails and calls during the intake process. Once she moved in, she immediately took to everyone and the staff welcomed her in. My mom loves it here and is thriving. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my mom is clean, safe, and well cared for.
To anyone reading all of the bad reviews, it’s important to keep in mind that there is no perfect nursing home nor is any other place of business (it’s perfect for us and I cannot imagine my mom spending this next chapter of her life anywhere else), but you should be able to see them trying and caring. At any nursing home, you need to determine what your level of involvement in your loved ones’ care will be once they are there and it is your job to proactively communicate with the staff to properly advocate for your loved ones. This is exactly what I see at this nursing home. Their desire to excel shines through as they immediately address any issues, questions, or concerns. Coach Woody, Mr. Mark, Bradley, and Janie, her aides; Staci, Brittany, and Katie are giving my mom the best care possible. Not only does she look forward to seeing them, but she also lights up when she sees them and when she talks to me on the phone about them. She laughs, jokes, and interacts with them all the time just like family. This level of interaction has really helped to improve her memory and word-finding issues she was having before moving in.
My mom’s words: “I love how they cook for me and they stay on that button when I press it and need something (referring to their response time to her using her call button bracelet😂)”
Thank you Otterbein for curating such a beautiful family-centered experience with your small house concept and level of care. Thank you for giving ME some time back for this next chapter of my life as well. I am getting the best sleep these days not having to worry about mom falling at home, leaving the oven on by mistake, forgetting to take her meds, or worse – taking too much and not remembering.

Experience was not great when my grandmother was there. It was hard to get into to contact with them because they rarely answered the phone, and when we did talk to people they could not give us any information, the phone in her room did not work for the 4 weeks that she was there, which was extremely irritating since we weren’t able to go in due to COVID. On top of all of this they lost her glasses within a week of her getting there, and never found them. Towards the end up her stay we found out that she started to develop bed sores. They touted having 1 nurse per 5 patients; however, many times when we visited there was only 1 nurse going in between two or there buildings. Please don’t send your loved ones there, we regret sending my grandmother there. Would not recommend, very disappointed with the experience.

Everyone at Collins and Kruse is fantastic! I work at a Senior Living Community and work with a lot of families. I know I can count on them any time I refer a family over to them whether they have questions or want assistance with various elder law tasks.
Thanks so much for being my go too and treating our families so well!

The person they have answering incoming requests is very rude. Felt like I was calling to talk to the CEO of a major company and her job was to find any excuse to deny me talking to a lawyer. Would not listen, made assumptions halfway through my first sentence and then just kept talking over me until I gave up and hung up. Very unpleasant business impression and one I’m just not willing to fight through to maybe get help.
Jackie and his team have been a tremendous help with my parents. I am the POA and have been working over the past year getting my parents financials and Independent Living arranged. It has been an immense amount of work and not sure how I would have accomplished any of it without this teams services. Can not say enough good things about their efforts. Special call out to Chrisiti Selders who has been a real god send. Thank you!
Everybody at the firm that I’ve spoken to are very helpful. I’m glad I decided to make the investment with them, to me, it was worth it.
Stephanie has been/and is very helpful and available for any of my questions.
I enjoy working with her.
